Family History and Temple Work

April 2018 Conference Reminders

General Conference time is such a wonderful time. Uplifting and powerful messages are delivered by our prophet and leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints each Conference.  As our next Conference is quickly approaching, here’s a look back at just a few messages from April 2018 Conference to help remind us of our individual responsibilities and blessings as we engage in family history and temple work.

President Russell M. Nelson:

Our message to the world is simple and sincere: we invite all of God’s children on both sides of the veil to come unto their Savior, receive the blessings of the holy temple, have enduring joy, and qualify for eternal life…

construction of these temples may not change your life, but your time in the temple surely will.  In that spirit, I bless you to identify those things you can set aside so you can spend more time in the temple. I bless you with greater harmony and love in your homes and a deeper desire to care for your eternal family relationships.

I bless you with increased faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and a greater ability to follow Him as His true disciples.  I bless you to raise your voice in testimony, as I do now, that we are engaged in the work of Almighty God!

Elder Dale G. Renlund:

When we gather our family histories and go to the temple on behalf of our ancestors, God fulfills promised blessings simultaneously on both sides of the veil.

Elder Quentin L. Cook:

Family history work, heaven-blessed by technology, has dramatically increased in the past few years.  We would be unwise to become complacent about this divinely appointed responsibility and expect that Aunt Jane or some other committed relative will take care of it.

Let me share President Joseph Fielding Smith’s jarring comments: ” None is exempt from this great obligation.  It is required of the apostle as well as the humblest elder [or sister].  Place, or distinction, or long service in the Church … will not entitle one to disregard the salvation of one’s dead.”
