Youth

For Strength of Youth

One Sunday afternoon at the Granite Family History Center, while serving a shift, I was indexing a batch of records.  Something came up that seemed to be a unique situation that I didn’t know how to deal with.  I looked at the “project instructions” and asked the other Consultants who were serving on the shift, if they could help.  None of us knew how to solve the problem.  After a few minutes of asking around, I came and sat back down to see if I could figure it out, when a young woman who was working at a computer directly in front of me turned around and said, “Sister Helland, I can help you with that!”

I am continually amazed at the dedication of the youth Temple and Family History Consultants who serve at the Family History Center.  They are eager to learn, quick to learn, and willing to share what they have learned about family history.  It is a great blessing to have the strength of the youth at the Center every afternoon from 3:00-5:00 p.m.  They often come on Sundays and spend time with their families and friends learning about their ancestors and working to find ordinances to take to the temple.  Many of these youth are weekly, early-morning attenders of the temple.

The youth have been promised incredible blessings from Elder David R. Bednar, “I promise you will be protected against the intensifying influence of the adversary.  As you participate in and love this holy work, you will be safeguarded in your youth and throughout your lives.” (October 2011)

We are so thankful for the inspiration that opened the Family History Center to the youth.  Their strength is a blessing for all of us on this side and the other side of the veil. — Janet Helland
