Granite FamilySearch Center

GFSC Youth Program

The Granite Family Search Center is excited to be starting Youth Classes for the 2023/24 school year! We will be teaching the youth who attend how to navigate through the FamilySearch program, find and prepare family names to take to the temple to perform sacred and necessary ordinances on their behalf. Through this learning experience, the youth will gain insight into where their family roots come from and a greater recognition of their own majestic identity and who they are.

This year we will be having two sessions. The first session of classes will run September 5th – January 9th. The second session will be January 23rd – May 16th, observing the holiday and school closing days of the Canyons School District.

Classes will be held once a week on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 3:00-4:00 pm, or if needed a little later.

The program is geared to students in Jr. High or Middle School, though older youth ages are very welcome.

Here are what a couple of our youth consultants have to say about the program:

  • Hi! My name is Kate and I am 14 years old. This past year I was called as a family history consultant and this calling blessed my life a lot. I was able to go over every Tuesday and Thursday with a bunch of friends and it was great! I also had the opportunity to teach the youth in my ward how to use the website and find ancestors. The experience helped me grow closer to my family and helped others grow closer to theirs. The Granite FamilySearch Center has a special spirit, it’s hard to describe, but when you’re working you are just filled with excitement and can feel your ancestors excitement too. Everyone who works there is super nice and is always happy to help. I would strongly recommend other youth going after school or for family home evenings. With the world we live in today, sometimes it’s hard to feel the spirit, and we question if it’s even there. But we need to remember who we are, who we represent, and how we can help.
  • Hi! I’m Capella, and in the summer of 2022, I had the opportunity to go to a week-long camp focused on learning about family history at the granite family history center. It was really cool being able to learn how to do work for my ancestors, and since then, I’ve loved going to the family history center. In January 2023, I was called to be a youth family history consultant, and started going to the center every Tuesday after school. Being able to not only learn about my family and hear their stories but also do work for them was a really powerful experience. Going every week and building the habit of logging into family search was really great. The center is a really special place, and just walking in you feel more at peace. I know that doing family history and helping our ancestors on the other side of the veil is extremely important. After I started to do family history I’ve noticed more blessings in my life and am happier – I feel more connected to my ancestors, and I’ve felt the spirit with me. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to learn about family history and be able to teach others about it as well. I’ve seen how it can affect your life in such positive ways. I highly recommend youth going to the family history center or just creating a family search account to try it out. The struggles we face today can feel depleting, but we have to remember we’re never alone. Doing family history can be a way to feel more connected to your family, yourself, and Heavenly Father.

Please come join us for snacks, fun, adventure and the miracles of FamilySearch!
