President Spencer W. Kimball said, “Our success, individually and as a Church, will largely be determined by how faithfully we focus on living the gospel in the home.” (Ensign, May 1978, 101)
In the October 2014 General Conference, Elder Allan F. Packer stated that “Temple and family history work is part of living the gospel at home. It should be a family activity, far more than a Church activity.” He cited the renewed emphasis on family history and temple work by the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve and promised that our response to this emphasis will increase our individual and family joy and happiness.
Since 2014 the emphasis on temple and family history has only increased. This month’s General Conference again focused our attention on family history, temple work and the gathering of Israel on both sides of the veil. I have personally witnessed the increased joy and happiness that comes from family history in my own life and in the lives of many others.
Notwithstanding the many invitations, promises, and admonitions we have received in recent years, and the numerous advancements in technology, there are still many families who have yet to realize the joy and happiness that comes from family history. At the Granite FHC we want to increase the joy and happiness of all families by helping them participate in family history.
Although the Granite FHC is not open to walk-ins, beginning October 19, 2020, the Granite Family History Center will be available to families by appointment only. If you would like to schedule a time for your family to visit the center and learn more about how you can participate in family history in your home, please call Jacque Fryer at 801-231-1635 or email her at jacquefryer@gmail.com. Out of concern for the health and safety of our patrons, volunteers, and staff due to the COVID-19 pandemic, special procedures and guidelines have been adopted which you will be made aware of when you schedule. We appreciate you following all the guidelines. We look forward to sharing the blessings of family history with you soon. –Dave Castleton, Director, Granite Family History Center
