Memories

Making, Saving, and Sharing Memories

When my parents passed away, I was left with much of what they felt was important and had accumulated over a lifetime. Sorting through photographs, letters, diaries and journals, has been an overwhelming and often confusing task. Knowing that I can’t possibly save everything, the challenge of knowing what to keep, and how to best organize it, has been ever on my mind. How can I honor my parents and keep the memories alive that would be most important to them?

I found a great resource to help me in this process, at one of my favorite family history websites; The Family History Guide . Here I found several lessons to help walk me through the process of saving and sharing memories to Family Search. By learning and applying the online lessons, I have been guided in my efforts to save and share the memories and histories of my parents. At the Family History Guide website, I also found links to the Family Search Wiki where I was able to learn about the kinds of information to keep, and how to organize and store this information. There are links to helpful articles written by others that have been through this process.

If you are wondering what to do with all those family treasures stored in your attic, office, garage, etc., there are resources available at the click of a mouse, that can help you learn what to keep and what to share as you turn your hearts to your ancestors, and share their story. –Elaine Hardman
