Preserving Records

Preserving What Was Lost

Being called to be a Relief Society Family History and Temple Rep led me to work as a consultant at the Family History Center, not quite a year ago. What a blessing this journey has been! I would encourage anyone that experiences the prompting to begin this important work for their ancestors.

I would like to share a couple of experiences that have been a witness to me that the Lord is helping us as we do this important work.

An elderly sister came to the FHC. She was looking to find a book that she had written on her grandmother’s history. The grandmother was a friend to one of Brigham Young’s daughters. The grandmother had recorded her own incredible history. Her friend had made her promise that the history would be recorded in the archives of the church. This sister had written the history from the grandmother’s own recordings and planned to publish this 185 page history as a book. Prior to the book being published, the manuscript was lost.

Ten years later, the sister said a miracle occurred and the manuscript was found. The book was completed and given to the church to copy into the archives. Years again passed by. The sister came to the FHC seeking help to find this book and wanted to enter it under her grandmother’s name so her posterity could read her history. With help from the Family Search Help Line and searching for the book in the archives, the book was found! The sister was helped to enter the book’s URL as a source under grandmother’s name. It was now available for all to read. This elderly sister was overwhelmed with joy and felt it was a blessing that she was able to complete this mission for her grandmother in a few short hours at the Family History Center!

I was searching for stories of my ancestors in my family tree. I have always wanted to have the stories of my ancestors’ trials, faith and the miracles they experienced, to share with my grandchildren. It was a slow process to look through the memories of the many ancestors in my tree. One evening I was looking at the many activities and great things that the FAMILY HISTORY GUIDE offers. I came across an incredible link that will search all of my ancestors’ memories in the tree! It lists them in a neat column that I can peruse and find the stories that will interest my grandchildren. I count this “find” as a blessing to help me with sharing and inspiring my children and grandchildren with stories from their ancestors! This wonderful link is https://stories.familyfoundapp.com/ (All the Stories).

I hope each of you will experience the joy and the spirit that comes with searching for your ancestors and sharing their faith building, incredible experiences with your families!
