Resources for Military Research

Other genealogical resources for researching military personnel are available. Here are three: FamilySearch.org, ancestry.com and Fold3.com.

FamilySearch.org – In addition to millions of military records, FamilySearch’s Wiki includes a comprehensive list of most available databases organized by wars, soldiers and state.

Ancestry.com – Ancestry.com’s U.S. Military Collection on Ancestry contains more than 100 million names and 700 titles and databases of American military records. As a member of the church you have free access to this.

Fold3.com – Fold3 features premier collections of original military records. These records include the stories, photos, and personal documents of the men and women who served in the military. Many of the records come from the U.S. National archives, The National Archives of the U.K. and other international records. This can be accessed for free from any Family History Center through the Family History Center Portal. –Aimee McDaniel
