Take a Walk Down Memory Lane with “All About Me”

Have you checked out some of the fun activities FamilySearch has for you and your family? I decided to try All About Me. Doing this activity can help you learn what is special about your name and what was going on during the year you were born.  First, let me warn you–some of the things I discovered made me wish I could go back to the good, old days.

So what DID I find out? In the year I was born, gas was only 29 cents a gallon and a movie ticket was only 75 cents.  A first-class postage stamp was 3 cents.  Oops…, I’m afraid I may be dating myself. Knowing that the videocassette recorder was invented this year is even scarier.

The Los Angeles Temple was dedicated during my birth year bringing the total number of temples up to a grand total of 10, and David O McKay was President of the Church. I did not come across the plains as my children sometimes want to believe, but one of the top news stories of the year was that phone lines connected Britain with Canada. And, some things never change–the New York Yankees won the World Series.

Take a fun walk down memory lane for yourself or with your family. It’s a great way to get your children interested in Family History and have a lot of fun and laughs together.  Log into FamilySearch and in the upper right corner you’ll see Family History Activities.  Click on Check them out, and then click on All About Me.
