Have you ever struggled to find a record about an ancestor, only to find the reason why was because their name had been indexed incorrectly. In the past, I might have made a note of the error and complained to myself that there should be some way to fix it. I was frustrated because there was no way to correct the incorrect spelling. Not so any more!
FamilySearch has enabled name editing on some of their historical records. They state they are working diligently to make more records and other details in the entries available soon. This will help in finding records and ancestors we might not have otherwise found due to errors.
This “Edit” feature is easy to use. If the word “Edit” appears in blue next to your ancestor’s name on your indexed record, the “Edit” feature is available. If it does not appear, editing is not yet available on that record.
